Football transfers are one of the most hot-favourite topics on social media. The recent 2019/20 summer transfer window closed with some high-profile signings that saw players like Eden Hazard, Antoine Griezmann, Harry Maguire and a few more swap clubs to continue their career. Like every panic-stricken summer, there are a number of top-rated footballers whose contract end this season and they will be free to sign after this season.

From Premier League to La Liga to Serie A these top five free agents will be looking to switch leagues and demand higher salaries. XploreSports reviews the biggest stars that the marketplace will be sniffing to sign pre-contract agreements before they turn free agents next summer.

#5 Willian (Chelsea)

The Brazilian right-winger who joined Chelsea from Anzhi Makhachkala in 2013 is out of contract at the end of this season. Willian will be free to sign a pre-contract agreement with overseas clubs after January 1st as per FIFA’s transfer regulations. Willian has played 7 games this season scoring 1 goal and providing 1 assist in the Premier League. Chelsea’s new boss, Frank Lampard wants strong competition in wide and attacking areas. He has switched his options between Pedro, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Willian at regular intervals. Undoubtedly, Willian has the experience to score goals at big matches with his top work ethic and quality. The 31-year-old will be looking for contract renewal to continue his spell at Stamford Bridge.

Willian has featured in 300 appearances for Chelsea till date, scoring 52 goals. He has been on FC Barcelona‘s radar for almost 2 years. Chelsea has turned down the bids from the Spanish Champions regularly. However, the La Liga giants remain keen on Willian and will reignite their interest in January as he turns free to sign after this season. When Jose Mourinho was the manager of Manchester United in 2018 he tried his best to get the Brazilian to Old Trafford but Chelsea refused to let him move. Only time will tell if Willian stays at Chelsea or leaves for nothing at the end of the 2019/20 campaign.

#4 David Silva (Manchester City)

The Spanish international has already announced that it will be his last season with Manchester City as his contract ends this summer. In 2019 the attacking midfielder signed a one-year extension which kept him at the Etihad for one more season under Pep Guardiola. He will depart as one of Premier League’s most graceful, intelligent and tactical playmaker. Silva first signed for City in 2010 from Valencia and has developed into one of the club’s greatest ever players winning three Premier League titles, an FA Cup and two League Cups. He will look to lift a hat-trick Premier League title and win the Champions League for the club after spearheading the Blues’ unprecedented treble success in the 2018/19 season.

The Spaniard said, “When I finish my contract with Manchester City I will be 34 years old, at that time I will probably want to do something different”, “I don’t know yet but I won’t play for another club in England“. Japanese club Vissel Kobe are said to be interested in his services and if he strikes a deal he’ll join his former Spain teammates Andrés Iniesta and David Villa in the J1 league. There are also speculations that he is set to become the face of David Beckham’s MLS team Inter Miami once he is free to sign after this season.

#3 Edinson Cavani (PSG)

Edinson Cavani for PSG

Cavani will be free to negotiate with other clubs in Europe from January with his contract due to expire this summer. He has been a firm fan favourite at the Parc des Prince. But due to his age and sporting director Leonardo’s concern over the number of injuries he has accrued recently, the Ligue 1 giants have not come up with an offer to retain the services of a player they invested €64 million on in 2013 when they signed him from Napoli. The 32-year-old is PSG’s top scorer of all time with 195 goals and winning five titles, four French cups, five league cups, four Champions trophies in all competitions. It would be a bold move to sell the striker with Neymar’s future at the club still in doubts.

The Uruguayan already has the market sniffing for his services. Manchester United are in the frontline to bring Cavani to Old Trafford. But, Cavani looks interested to link up with Cristiano Ronaldo, Paulo Dybala and Gonzalo Higuain in an all-star attack for Juventus next summer. As he is free to sign after this season there are also rumours that Atletico Madrid are also interested to negotiate with PSG to bring the hitman home.

#2 Christian Eriksen ( Tottenham Hotspurs)

Tottenham Hotspurs star midfielder Christian Eriksen will also be a free agent this summer. He has already expressed his thoughts on new challenges ahead and with the team’s poor performance this season it looks like nothing will convince the Danish playmaker to sign a new contract. The 27-year-old is now at the peak of his powers and he is yet to win a piece of major silverware in his career. Eriksen has been one of the most consistent performers for Spurs since his arrival at the club from Ajax Amsterdam during the summer of 2013 and it now looks unlikely that he will continue playing at Wembley as he is free to sign after this season.

Eriksen was under Zinedine Zidane‘s radar last summer transfer and Los Blancos will be reportedly willing to pay big money to bring him to the Bernabeu next summer. Losing Eriksen would be a major blow to Tottenham but they will have to soon find his replacement. Maurizio Sarri who is with the intent of rebuilding Juventus is also looking to raid Spurs for the midfielder. Eriksen has a current market value of 100,00 mil € and will be available on a free transfer at the end of the season. Let’s sit back and watch which club negotiates better to get the services of the Dane.

#1 Luka Modric (Real Madrid)

From the Ballon d’Or to FIFA’s The Best, UEFA’s Best Player award and the star man at the World Cup, all awards went to Modric in the year 2018. Los Blancos haven’t given any updates on the contract extension for the Croatian and his current contract is set to expire this summer and he will be a free agent. The 34-year-old was heavily linked with a high profile move to Inter Milan this summer. Having been previously rumored to be one of the ageing stars he could be cut loose by Florentino Perez to raise funds for a young squad overhaul in the rebuild process.

Modric has been restricted to the bench for most of the matches this season and his injuries have also been a concern for Zidane. He has played 4 games for Madrid this season scoring one goal and providing one assist. Also, the Croatian has started one league game this season – on the opening day of the season in which he received a red card. With Real keen to sign Paul Pogba or Christian Eriksen next summer, it seems unlikely that Modric will get the contract offer he is perhaps looking for. Interest from Italy remains open and only time will tell if the Ballon d’Or winner stays at the Bernabeu
